Our long-standing partnership on nursing with Bournemouth University is going from strength to strength.
2021 marks our 21st year of providing student nurse placements at our homes. In that time, several hundred students have worked with us, gaining essential experience as they contribute to residents’ care.
Belinda Humphries, Practice Learning Advisor at the university, said: “We aim to provide every one of our pre-registration nursing students with experience in a community setting such as a nursing home within their first or second years of study. It is really useful for them to have as wide-ranging an experience as possible.
“Before the pandemic, we always had a good number of students going to Colten Care homes and we are now building up the opportunities on offer once again.
“Nine Colten homes are already taking a general nursing student each at the moment and we will look to offer our mental health nursing students experience at dedicated dementia care homes such as The Aldbury and Fernhill.
“As well as focusing on student nurses, we provide training days for qualified Colten staff to further their professional development. This includes programmes to enable them to be assessors and supervisors for both student nurses and trainee Nursing Associates under NMC 2018 Standards.”
