Welcome to Talking Care, highlighting the clinical side of our residents’ care.
‘More than a uniform, more than a job’: that is our message as we emphasise the satisfaction to be found in care home nursing and the positive difference you can make to the lives of residents. We can only achieve outstanding care for our residents if we work together as one team and support colleagues’ career development.
That is exactly what we are doing by enabling carers to become Registered Nursing Associates through our partnership with Solent University in Southampton. The first cohort of Colten trainees to graduate from the nursing associate degree course are both inspirational and trailblazing – they truly are our magnificent seven.
At the same time, and in spite of all the challenges of the pandemic, we continue to strengthen our support for student nursing with Bournemouth University. For 21 years, we have been providing work experience placements, something we are looking to build up again as the Covid recovery continues. We also work with the university on training for our qualified staff so they can act as assessors and supervisors.
We have strengthened our team with the appointment of Cephanie Keightley, a hugely experienced nursing professional, as Senior Clinical Skills Trainer. Welcome aboard!
And we are thrilled that our focus on residents’ care has once again won outside recognition. Two of our homes, Braemar Lodge in Salisbury and Kingfishers in New Milton, are through to the finals of the National Care Awards.
I hope you enjoy your Talking Care. If you have any feedback, or would like to suggest an article, please tell us at ContactUs@ColtenCare.co.uk
